Set up by the people behind Soho’s Damson & Co, Queenswood manages to balance the needs of London’s meat-free diners without forgetting the omnivores. The focus is on a menu of “inventive” food that puts vegetarian dishes “at the forefront” – think ‘green’ shakshuka (spinach, chard, nettles etc)., courgette and haloumi burgers or avocado risotto with wasabi, asafoetida and basil. However, there’s also plenty for those who favour the delights of steak-frites, piri-piri chicken with smoked sweetcorn or glazed salmon fillet with soy, shiitake mushrooms, bamboo shoots, coriander and brown rice. Vibrant presentation is a plus point, and “everything seems super healthy” according to one convert. Finish with a creative dessert or sidestep sweets in favour of a classy cocktail – perhaps a Caipirinha spiked with ginger. Queenswood’s handsome, artfully distressed interior is also perfect if you want to hang out with friends.
