Battersea Square must have been in dire need of a bar-deli-trattoria, judging from the response to Melanzana since it began trading. The venue, inhabiting the
premises of a former public house, is open all through the day. Customers wander in enticed by excellent deli counters and the prospect of decent coffee (100% Arabica, don't you know?), but soon find themselves planning
lunch and dinner here too. Grab a table in the slightly haphazard interior – if a seat isn’t available, you probably won’t have to wait long – and tuck into simple, good salads, fresh pastas and top-class pizzas. A meal is a casual affair, but it’s inexpensive and good fun. What’s more, the quality of the cooking is matched by the cheerfulness of the staff.
