Putney is a lovely part of London in the Wandsworth area. Since 1845, it's been where the famous Boat Race between Oxford and Cambridge universities starts. Lots of people come to watch the race and hang out at Putney's lively pubs by the river, which are beautiful in the summer sunshine. The main street is busy with bars and places to eat and shop, and there's a big green called Putney Heath with lots of trees and open space. Putney Heath is a great place for picnics, there's even a cricket ground there. In the past, people did all sorts of things in Putney like horse racing and bowling. But now, it's mostly known for rowing.
