Star of Channel 4’s First Dates Fred Sirieix has announced that he is engaged to his girlfriend of two years.
Sirieix, who has hosted the C4 dating show since it first aired in 2013, announced the news on his official Instagram page, with a picture of him and his fiancé looking loved up. Despite being a romance guru on television, Sirieix is notoriously private about his private life and the name of his fiance is unknown, although he affectionately refers to her on social media as ‘fruitcake’.
In his celebratory post, Sirieix wrote “#fruitcake said yes” followed by heart and diamond ring emojis. Famous pals of the former Galvin at Windows Maitre’d flooded the post with well wishes, with co-star Cici Coleman writing: “aw Fred! So happy for you both”.
Olympian Greg Rutherford commented “Congratulations mate! You guys are amazing. Well done x.", while heavyweight boxer Dillian Whyte kept it short and sweet with a simple “Congrats pal”.
The First Dates presenter has refused to let the current coronavirus pandemic get in the way of his love story and has spoken to the media of his plans to celebrate once things have settled down. Speaking to The Sun Online, Sirieix said: “We are delighted. As soon as all this is over we are off to Negril for a party on the beach”.
Just last week, Channel 4 announced a spin-off of the popular First Dates format, which will focus on younger participants. Teen First Dates will air on sister channel E4 and will feature participants aged between 16 and 19 years old. The new show also wants to make a point of being as diverse as possible, welcoming straight, gay, bisexual and transexual teens in the fold.
