Romantics ready to propose at The Gherkin on the Leap Day will be gifted a free magnum of Champagne
If you can muster up the courage to pop the big question on 29 February at Searcys at the Gherkin, you'll be rewarded with a magnum of bubbly

Searcys at The Gherkin has revealed that it will be giving away a free magnum of Champagne to anyone who proposes at its Helix at The Gherkin restaurant on 29 February.
The special offer, marking the Leap Day which only comes around every four years, will be open only to people dining in the restaurant that evening, and if you’re planning on proposing you need to let the restaurant know in advance so that they can put your Champagne on ice. This means that this isn’t the offer for people who are spontaneous as it requires some preplanning.
According to folklore, 29 February is meant to be the only day where both men and women can propose to one another, but this is clearly a rather outdated tradition. However, this doesn’t stop the Leap Day being one of the hottest days of the calendar year for people to get down on one knee.
And for those who are bold enough to pop the question at The Gherkin, they will be rewarded with a totally free magnum of Taittinger Brut Reserve Champagne which is normally sold for £115 at the sky-high Helix at The Gherkin restaurant.
The Helix at the Gherkin restaurant by Searcys is based on the 39th floor of the iconic Gherkin skyscraper at 30 St Mary Axe and offers panoramic views of London through its large glass windows. It can also be hired out as a wedding venue meaning that you could even propose and get married in the same place if you so wish.
Last year 20 Stories in Manchester, another restaurant set high up in the sky, started to host weddings as well, showing that there really is a big demand for weddings with a view at the moment.
