Um, did Ed Sheeran just get married?

Several publications are reporting that pop star Ed Sheeran got married in a secret ceremony just before Christmas.

The ‘Give Me Love’ singer, age 28, is thought to have married his childhood sweetheart Cherry Seaborn in an intimate ceremony on his sprawling country estate in Suffolk. 26-year-old hockey player Seaborn got engaged to Sheeran in December 2017, with the singer revealing the news via a gushing post on Instagram.

Ed announced his engagement on Instagram last year

Sheeran wrote: “Got myself a fiancé just before new year. We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well.” Only 40 people are said to have attended the low-key ceremony, with the couple only inviting close family members and their oldest, most trusted friends.

The secrecy surrounding the nuptials will come as no surprise to Sheeran’s fan base – the pop sensation is notoriously private when it comes to his personal life and in an interview with Australian radio station KIIS FM last year, he said that he wears a ring on his wedding finger so that “nobody will know when we get married”.

The couple met when they were in school

According to planning documents, it would seem Sheeran had plans for his own Castle on the Hill, as he intended to build a Saxon-style wedding chapel on the grounds of his property, which would be made of flint and feature a rounded tower. However, the plans were rejected by Suffolk Coastal District Council last June – the spoilsports.

Ed's famous pals include US songstress Taylor Swift

Sheeran is also said to have shunned any celebrity guests, meaning that his famous pals such as Taylor Swift and Niall Horan missed out on the big day. According to a source who spoke to The Sun, the couple are planning a festival-style party in the summer to celebrate the wedding for anyone who was unable to attend or didn’t know about the ceremony.

According to the source, that party will be “all singing and dancing, and they’ll be able to invite Taylor and their record company colleagues and royal friends.” Now, there’s a party we’d Dive right into – come on Ed, send an invite our way.
