The breathtakingly beautiful Isles of Scilly are awash with birdlife, wild flowers, stunning beaches & glorious coastal walks, but the islands’ restaurants are less of a draw for visitors. Most of the eateries here are of the workaday variety – but The Tean Restaurant at St Martin’s on the Isle Hotel is the major exception. This terrific restaurant serves refined cuisine that could successfully compete with a top-notch metropolitan outfit, while harnessing the best Scillonian produce in dishes. Brill & lobster from local waters are paired & served with Jersey Royal potatoes in a delicious summery starter, while a main course of local turbot comes with a risotto of St Martin’s crab & new season asparagus. Elsewhere there’s lamb & duck from just across the sea in Cornwall & island-grown vegetables bursting with flavour are used to garnish dishes. The likes of pannacotta with poached rhubarb, rhubarb jelly & fresh raspberries keep the momentum going until the end of a meal & service is as slick as the food. Note: you’ll need to stay over if you’re eating here as this is a dinner-only restaurant, but there are few lovelier places to be holed up in the entire UK.
