Boasting a beachside setting and stunning views across Maenporth Beach and Falmouth Bay, The Cove restaurant and bar has remained a popular spot for locals and visitors for almost 20 years, and shows no signs of slowing down. The restaurant was given a new lease of life in 2020, when the critically acclaimed, Michelin-starred chef Michael Caines took over the reins from former chef patron Arty Williams.
Caines rose to prominence during his 20-year stint at Gidleigh Park in Devon, where he gained and retained two Michelin stars. More recently, he has been cooking up a storm (in the most refined way possible) at Lympstone Manor over the border in Devon, where he has been chef patron since 2016. The Cove is a far more relaxed proposition however, serving seasonally changing menus which champion the best of Cornwall’s natural larder and a space that caters to all weathers - enjoy a meal on the elevated terrace in the summer months, or retreat behind the glass-fronted walls when it’s raining and relax in the cosy dining room.
The Cove is also unique for its inclusivity, keeping guests full from breakfast through to dinner (with afternoon tea in-between), as well as offering dedicated vegetarian and vegan menus, a children’s menu and a tasting menu for those looking to celebrate. Although the food offering here changes regularly, you can always expect to find well thought out dishes that champion high-quality Cornish produce: think roast Cornish cod decorated with a Thai puree, bean sprouts, fennel, mange tout, basil and lemongrass, followed by chocolate and orange mousse with confit orange sorbet for dessert. There’s an extensive list of globally inspired wines to take advantage of too.
With the relaxed and informal approach to dining that Caines has taken here, The Cove continues to provide plenty to please locals, holidaymakers and families alike.
