Shoryu Ramen is a group of restaurants across London and regional parts of the country which specialises in Hakata tonkotsu ramen which is characterised by its thick, rich consistency and thin, straight ramen noodles. Shoryu Ramen's owner, Tak Tokumine, hails from the birthplace of this recipe in Hakata, Japan, and has brought this signature dish to the UK.
The Liverpool Street branch has a classically Japanese style with decor that leans into natural materials and earthy colours. The space feels simple and classic, with clean lines and communal-style seating, perfect for either a quick work lunch or a buzzy date night.
The menu is extensive and offers a large range of different dish styles, starting with, of course, ramen. Some stand-out shout-outs here include the kimchi seafood tonkotsu with fiery kimchi tonkotsu broth loaded with prawns, squid, seasoned bean sprouts and naruto fish cake, or what about the Dracula tonkotsu with power up tonkotsu broth, caramelised black garlic and garlic chips.
Then, there's the Shoryu buns such as the pumpkin croquette bun with pumpkin croquette, iceberg lettuce and cucumber with hirata sauce and japanese mayo, or the BBQ pork bun with char siu bbq pork belly, iceberg lettuce, cucumber and hirata sauce and japanese mayo. For curry fans, get a load of the chicken katsu curry with white rice, crisp panko breaded chicken breast, chef’s specialty curry sauce, Japanese pickles and tender broccoli, and dig into the poke bowls with toppings like salmon and avocado, too.
