This is a beautiful spot in a small village threaded along the bottom of a wooded valley, with one of the finest walks in Gower on its doorstep. Smart but unremarkable from the outside, Maes Yr Haf has a surprisingly metropolitan interior, with retro lighting, clean lines & upmarket modern furniture. The restaurant was recently taken over by chef Ben Griffiths & manager Mark Wicks, who are delivering a warm welcome, polished service & inventive but accessible cooking. Get started with home-baked breads, before sampling a trio of duck (home-cured ‘ham’, rillette & parfait) followed by roast cod masala with pickled carrot, coconut & coriander lentils. Welsh ingredients also star in dishes such as lamb with marsh samphire, crackling, broad beans & mint, as well as Gower rhubarb fool with poached rhubarb, sorbet & jelly.
