Canterbury is a city perhaps best known for its cathedral, in the south east of England. During the Middle Ages, it was a pilgrimage site, and its ancient walls, which were originally built by the Romans, still encircle its medieval centre that's filled with cobbled streets and timber framed houses. There's plenty to do in Canterbury. It's a city with over 1,400 years of history, and three UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Canterbury Cathedral, as well as St Martin's Church and St Augustine's Abbey. If you like the water, you can spend a day on the River Stour with a punt ride or a boat trip. Make sure you wander through the beautiful Westgate Gardens, which are filled with tourists from all over the world. It's the perfect place to grab a picnic or enjoy a break from the busyness of the city. There are also plenty of museums, great bars, restaurants, little boutiques and high street retailers. So whatever you fancy doing at Canterbury, there will be something for you.
