Liverpool City Council has approved planning permission for a brand-new food hall and events space, with the major dining, retail and leisure operator BOXPARK set to go ahead with the build later this year.

This will be BOXPARK’s first venture outside of London, where it already operates three sites in Shoreditch, Croydon and Wembley, and is expected to cost £3.5 million.

The site will be located in the city’s Baltic Triangle after signing a 15-year lease with Cains Brewery Village to transform the historic Canning Hall into an expansive food hall and events space.

The 21,000 sq ft venue will include 10 internal units on the ground floor, three internal bars, as well as an indoor mezzanine featuring a bar, games area and toilets. Elsewhere, a 5,400 sq ft alfresco terrace will offer outdoor dining and external bars. It’s a huge undertaking that’s set to hold 400 covers inside, plus an extra 200 on its external terrace.

The project is expected to bring 150 new jobs to the local community in Liverpool, with plans to attract over a million people in the Baltic Triangle each year.

BOXPARK CEO Simon Champion comments: 'We are delighted to receive the news today that BOXPARK Liverpool has planning approval as our team has put a lot of work into bringing the Canning Hall at Cains Brewery back to life. We're very excited to bring jobs, and a lot of fun, to the Baltic Triangle which we see as an area with great prospects over the next few years.'

While Cains Brewery Village, Managing Director, Harj Dusanj said: ‘Today marks an exciting day for Cains Brewery Village with the planning approval of BOXPARK Liverpool.

‘BOXPARK shares our passion and enthusiasm to showcase the best independent street-food businesses with world class entertainment in the heart of the Baltic Triangle.
