Teddington is a rather splendid suburb in the London borough of Richmond upon Thames, and holds a history that dates back to ancient parish roots in Middlesex. The suburb became a part of Greater London in 1965, but before that can be traced back to an Old English tribal leader, changing through Saxon and Norman times to be Todyngton or Tutington. The surrounds of Teddington are lined with the most luscious green landscapes, and the suburb is filled with Thames-side towpaths, a busy high street and plenty of traditional English pubs. Teddington Lock is the lowest lock on the Thames and is a complex network of three separate lock chambers and a weir. This structure draws many tourists to the area to watch as boats make their way down the Thames.
