Restaurateur Mike Robinson has joined forces with Head Chef Liam Goldstone to create The Elder, a stunning restaurant which brings together sustainable, local produce and elegant dining in Bath. The Elder takes over the historic building South Parade which dates back to 1700, designed by renowned architect John Wood. The restaurant's owners spent four years restoring it to its former glory, creating a beautiful setting for diners, and making this even more of a must visit.
Inside, the space favours a vintage feel with rich-toned walls, an impressive statement bar crafted from dark, polished wood and cosy seating options. Plus, if you're only visiting, the restaurant is located directly next to the Hotel Indigo Bath, making accommodation options easy to organise.
The Elder's concept revolves around an appreciation for nature, with the team focusing on wild food, foraged carefully from the nearby land. With a menu that's in time with the seasons, they see each dish as a celebration of Bath and the surrounding areas.
In terms of suppliers and partners, the team are passionate about sharing their transparent chain with customers, starting with wild venison provided by ethical venison company Deer Box, founded by Mike Robinson, owner of The Elder. All fish found on the menu comes from Cornwall’s Flying Fish, which offers a changing daily menu and is sustainable. While, dairy, farmed meats, and vegetables come from only British growers, many of which are organic farms.
Customer experience is also something the team are passionate about and operate on a one booking per night for each table, ensuring that you can really take your time. This makes sense, too, because the tasting menu is a glorious seven courses and comes with a personalised cocktail.
If this sounds like the kind of place you can see yourself hosting a special event, talk to the team about the plethora of options, from private dining for 10 people to taking over the whole town house.
