Taunton is the county town of Somerset, known for its markets and minster church. Taunton has a thousand year history and still has its 10th century monastic foundation here today, Taunton Castle, which became a priory. There's a range of attractions for the whole family in Taunton, including a steam railway, a beautiful cider farm and a centre where old rural craft still flourishes, along with many beautiful gardens and so much more. If you have a day to spare, visit the Museum of Somerset, which is housed in Taunton Castle, in the 12th century great hall. This museum tells the county's fascinating story right from prehistoric times until today. You'll be able to take in the history by witnessing real objects, playing interactive games and listening to the voices of Somerset's people from both the past and the present.
