Another beautiful market town in West Lancashire, Ormskirk, is just around 13 miles or so north of Liverpool. Quite unusually, but with a beautiful story, Ormskirk is renowned for its gingerbread and its beautiful and historic market. Ormskirk Gingerbread gained fame thanks to the ladies of Ormskirk, as in 1855, five women paid £20 per year to the East Lancashire Railway for the privilege to sell their gingerbread. And, it's been a popular choice of treat until today. If you find yourself in this part of the country, there's plenty for you to do. Visit the WWT Martin Mere and enjoy getting up close and personal with some beautiful wildlife. Take a trip down one of the many cycle or running routes, visit the market, an animal farm, or some open nature reserves. Whatever you do, we know you'll have a great time at Ormskirk.
