This former branch of Rocket has been re-cast as the Mews Pizza Co – a bright, airy venue with a high glass ceiling and a good line in cosmopolitan sustenance. The first-floor restaurant produces wood-fired posh pizzas from an open kitchen, offering standard choices as well as more creative toppings such as lobster with smoked black pudding and green chillies, or pulled pork. More weird still are the dessert pizzas (wild strawberry and limoncello), soon to be joined by brunch pizzas. Anywhere else this would be gimmicky, but here the Mayfair location and the quality of ingredients count for much. The kitchen is equally adept at imaginative salads (such as cod ‘fritto’ with bean shoots, pea and coconut sauce), grills (marinated tuna with cannellini beans and citrus dressing, say), and lively desserts. The ground-floor bar is well-stocked, and the traffic-free courtyard is a bonus for maxed-out West End shoppers.
