There was a time when the caffeine-starved shoppers of Cambridge’s central retail mall had only the ubiquitous coffee chains on which to rely, but now Jamaica Blue has come to the rescue. Slick branding and bright lighting may mark out the venue as a link in an Australian coffee chain, but this outpost is the first in the UK – and the coffee tastes of independent brewhouse beans. The baristas also serve the not-so-traditional chilled lattes with flavours such as hazelnut and choc-mint, as well as milkshakes. A menu of brunch classics – the likes of eggs Benedict, feta tart, and tempting muffins and pastries – combined with the relaxed interior, make a welcome respite from the impersonal shopping centre in which the café is housed.
