Butch Annie’s name might be playful, but they are serious about burgers. Located in the centre of Cambridge, Butch Annie’s is perfect for a quick stop off, but is also a destination burger joint in itself, specialising in patties and buns in all their iterations.
Tucked between two more conspicuous buildings, Butch Annie’s unassuming entryway could be easy to miss. But past a neon burger guiding visitors from the entry down to the basement restaurant, walking into the intimate dining room feels like discovering a well-kept secret. Vibrant, playful interiors and colour-splashed walls bordered by red fairy lights more than compensate for the absence of windows, and a mix of booth and bar seating makes for a fun dining experience.
Not to be misled by the restrained entrance, Butch Annie’s burger selection is anything but. The menu is packed to the brim with innovative takes on the old reliable burger. Butch Annie’s doesn’t compromise on the quality of their grass-fed beef, but between the two buns, anything goes. Expect anything from a classic cheeseburger with gherkins, to patties slathered in bourbon sauce or honey and truffle mayo for a touch of luxury.
Beyond beef, chicken burger concepts also cross borders, with offerings like the Korean-inspired a gochujang-infused chicken burger, and a chicken milanese-esque Italian burger. Meat-free diners shouldn’t be put off by Butch Annie’s affinity for beef, with plant-based patties made daily in-house receiving the same indulgent adornment as their meaty counterparts.
A selection of craft beers from local brewery Brewboard make up the selection of eight beers on tap, ranging from fruity IPAs to pilsners and pale ales. A range of milkshakes and soft drinks are also available.
