We went to the Green Door in Gloucester Road last Friday night (14 May) and had an amazing dinner. We ordered two bottles of wine, the 2008 Overstone Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand and the 2005 Old Vine Zinfandel from California. We both ordered the Soup of the day (creamy mushroom) as our starter and the crushed black pepper fillet steak as our main. The soup was a perfect size not too big not to small, tasty and light. The Sauvignon Blanc was a great choice to have with our starters light and fruity and possibly one of the best I have had in a long time within that price range. After our delicious soup we had the most amazing steak I have ever eaten in London. It was tender, full flavoured and the crushed black pepper just added that extra bite. Each mouth full was better than the next that you savoured every bite in the hope it was not going to come to an end. The Zinfandel was perfectly matched with the fillet, smooth and spicy just what you want with a tender juicy steak. We decided to have a break after the first two courses, enjoy our wine and create some space for the mouth watering deserts we spotted on display. I ordered the Vanilla cheese cake and my partner had their famous chocolate fondant. The cheese cake was light and creamy (nothing beats a fantastic cheese cake!). The fondant is definitely for the chocolate lover, rich and heavy, my partner loved each bite! After our deserts the waiter presented us with a complementary digestive or as I liked to call it a cheeky little shot of all the nice mixtures behind the bar. All in all the food was amazing the service was fantastic and I would recommend the Green Door Steak House Gloucester Road to anyone and everyone.
