There's afternoon tea and then there's afternoon tea at The Adria; an edible love letter to this cherished British pastime which honours the roots and history behind this delicious tradition. The Adria is a five-star townhouse hotel in the heart of South Kensington, where it has welcomed guests for an impressive 154 years, having been established back in 1870.
Loved for its ideal location close to the V&A and Natural History Museums, and boasts 22 stunning suites, plus Games Lounge with top-notch cocktail menu and private dining options. Whether you're staying the night or not, enjoying afternoon tea here is a treat.
The concept for The Adria's afternoon tea is all about paying homage to its history, so you'll find a menu crafted with delicacies inspired by centuries of tea culture, served on a selection of historic tea-ware on loan from the renowned Chitra Collection. Served from Thursday to Monday, at 1pm until 4.30pm, it's the perfect way to celebrate a birthday, Mother's Day, baby shower or more.
As for the menu, diners can not only enjoy classic finger sandwiches such as cucumber and cream cheese, alongside smoked chicken, with spring onions and tarragon mayonnaise on granary bread, but options for open sandwiches, too. Think luxurious Clarence Court egg truffle mayonnaise scattered with fresh chives on brioche, as well as Foreman’s Smoked Scottish Salmon with crème fraiche and dill, complemented by Avruga Caviar.
Enjoy plain and Earl Grey golden raisin scones smothered with a delightful selection of jams and preserves, such as Seville orange marmalade and apricot, strawberry or raspberry jam, with clotted cream, of course. As for sweet treats, there's Black Forest gateau, as well as apricot pebble rice pudding, lemon poppy cake and a strawberry macaron.
There's also delicious selections to cater for vegan and vegetarians, as well as gluten-free diners.
