For those who prefer sightseeing to retail, the Dorking Museum regularly hosts interesting exhibitions, talks and activities and The Green Room Theatre regularly welcomes fantastic performing arts troupes from across the country and beyond. Elsewhere Dorking Halls hosts everything from stand-up comedy and live music to film screenings and children’s shows. On Fridays a traditional market pops up on St Martin’s Walk with traders showcasing a range of local produce including meat, cheese, confectionary and one of the best fruit and vegetable stalls in the south east. Dorking was historically known for its large poultry market – hence the large and unmissable statue of a cockerel erected on the roundabout at the town’s entrance and many references to fowl across the town.
