Best restaurants in Harrogate

Come for the spas, stay for the food. From Spanish eateries to cosy boozers, Harrogate’s best restaurants are vast, with a whole host of great options to choose from. Explore some of our top picks below.

Updated on 21 October 2024

This picturesque spa town in the heart of North Yorkshire is a bit of a hidden gem, often overshadowed by the other locations across the area. Famous for its therapeutic spa waters, Harrogate also boasts stunning Victorian architecture, bringing a historical charm and rich culture that draws tourists to visit, from the Royal Pump Room Museum to the Turkish baths. Surrounded by sprawling countryside, from the North York Moors to the Yorkshire Dales, Harrogate takes a central spot in some of these national parks meaning that you don’t have to go far to step into nature - it’s the complete package.

But this cosy, North Yorkshire town has also made its stamp on the food scene. Here, you'll find the birthplace of the iconic Bettys Café Tea Rooms, established back in 1919, and renowned for serving up a quintessentially British afternoon tea. As a result, you'll find a number of grand stately halls and hotels in the area, each putting their own spin on the delicacy.

Whilst we could happily talk about bite-sized cakes and scones all day, there’s a lot more to Harrogate’s dining scene. Here, you'll find several spots that really put the focus on showcasing local, seasonal produce, with ever changing menus that help to show the very best that Yorkshire has to offer - and there’s plenty. We’ve also not forgotten to include a selection of the area's best pubs - those that whip up a full roast with all the trimmings come Sunday. This is Yorkshire, after all, so you’ll be looking for a place or two to grab some Yorkshire puds - but only with beef!

If you’re not sure where to start when it comes to finding the best restaurants in Harrogate then you’ve come to the right place. We’ve scoured the city and rounded up our favourite hidden gems, offering relaxed dining and top-notch grub.
