The second location for this cheap, cheery neighbourhood steakhouse is in Haggerston, on the old site of Duke’s Brew & Que. Here, Beef & Brew’s loosely French-themed menu has been expanded, now encompassing fancy bar snacks such as fried oysters with a yuzu dressing. Carnivores needn’t be perturbed, though: you’ll still be able to get your hands on mains of great-value hanger or chateaubriand steaks with truffle béarnaise or chimichurri sauce. Sides depart from the norm, too, so look out for the likes of smoked aubergine with honey and miso. Don’t miss the indulgent desserts either, including the Brewer’s Mess: a gooey brownie topped with warm caramel and chocolate sauce. Head here on Sundays for slap-up roasts, or make the most of the steak happy hour (weekdays, 6-7pm), where you can get hanger steak and chips for just £10.
