The largest town in the county of Hampshire, Basingstoke is a town steeped in history. Dating back as far as 1000AD, it was originally just a market town, however after World War II it was significantly expanded as part of the London Overspill plan. This saw the population jump from just 13,000 in the 1940s to over 110,000 nowadays. With this sudden growth came a number of facilities, shops and restaurants which are still part of Basingstoke’s thriving town centre today.

Basingstoke has a number of fantastic museums which are worth visiting with the most notable being the Milestones living museum which features a Victorian pub, shops and even an old railway station. There are also plenty of beautiful green spaces in and around Basingstoke making it a fantastic place to come and spend a day during the summer. Regardless of when you visit though, one thing you won’t be short of in Basingstoke is places to eat. With a particularly wide array of Asian restaurants in the town centre, there are also plenty of other cuisines to choose from too. There are also lots of fantastic restaurants near Basingstoke too if you’re not planning on going right into the centre. Wherever you choose to visit though, you won’t be short of places to grab a bite.
