Spice Master is in Tilehurst, a Reading suburb not far from the Thames. It serves a range of modern and traditional Indian dishes. Its decor is typical of Indian restaurants across the country, including white tablecloths, folded napkins on plates and a compact and inviting dining area. The full menu is also available for delivery or collection.
Starters include samosas (both meat or vegetable), onion bhaji, shami kebab and prawn puri. Those not after a full blown curry for mains can then opt for something from the tandoori range. This includes salmon tikka, lamb chops, chicken tikka naga and lamb shashlik.
The other main dishes don’t stray far from staples of Anglo-British cuisine. There’s baltis, jalfrezis, kormas, tikka masalas, karahis, bhunas, vindaloos, dupiazas and biryanis. You’ll also find a range of chef’s specials. These include chicken moni (chicken with minced meat and peppers), pubya chicken (with spinach and mushrooms) and tandoori lamb chop bhuna.
No curry is complete with rice or bread and there’s plenty of these on offer, such as cheese nan, garlic nan, stuffed nan, chapati, roti, pilau rice and vegetable rice. The same is true of side dishes. Here you can choose from the likes of saag aloo, matar ponir and aloo gobi.
The set meal for two is £35.95. This features a mixed kebab, one chicken dish, one lamb dish, Bombay aloo, pilau rice and a nan.
