Afternoon tea at Café Royal is a regal experience in the heart of Regent Street. It's defined as an experience that is as decadent as the gilded golden salon that was once Oscar Wilde's favoured retreat. The menus here are crafted by executive pastry chef, Loic Carbonnet, and are full of absolutely delightful treats from start to finish. The afternoon teas are served in the golden salon that was once called the Grill Room, and in here, grandeur is never far away. You'll be surrounded by gold leaf designs, delicious food and artistic ceilings. Enjoy the free flowing Champagne and very best teas and soak in the atmosphere with a live pianist playing in the background.
First, you'll be served a selection of tea sandwiches, including the smoked Scottish salmon sandwich with dill infused cream cheese, marinated cucumber and white bread, along with the egg and truffle Clarence Court Brown eggs and Lincolnshire Poacher cheese with truffle on brioche bread. Curried chicken and roast beef are also on the menu. Of course, it's not an afternoon tea with plain and sultana scones, both served with strawberry preserve, Earl Grey tea jelly and Cornish clotted cream.
Your sweet treats include the royal cocoa chocolate financier with whipped ganache and salted caramel, along with the strawberry and coconut choux with poppy chantilly, and the lime and basil tartlet with meringue, the wild balinese vanilla and almond sponge, and a deliciously rich chocolate and hazelnut cake. There are also a range of vegetarian and vegan choices, along with a selection of teas and drinks. At select times, you can also enjoy delicious seasonal and collaborative afternoon teas, which are always worth taking a look at.
