In London's Covent Garden, you'll find a unique pan-Asian dining experience in the form of Gura Gura, an up-market restaurant spread across two floors. Gura Gura has earned a reputation for its jaw-dropping interiors which are inspired by the diverse landscapes of east Asia. A colour palette of rich, earthy tones complement dangling floral installations and mosaic bars - and wait until you see the life-size tree, which sprawls between diners and up to the ceiling.
As you can now imagine, Gura Gura isn't your average restaurant and so if you're looking for a place to host a special occasion, it's a fabulous choice. Enjoy a spectacle at the live sushi bar, or sip creative drinks at the underground cocktail den, or ask the staff to book you a big table in the main area.
In terms of the menu, Gura Gura prides itself on its diverse offering of Asian cuisine, bringing together sushi, sashimi, dim-sum and more. The food menu is huge with buckets of choice; start with some cold plates such as drunken chicken, which covers a poached chicken leg with Chinese wine and herb sauce, perhaps try the smashed cucumber with fried shallots and garlic, or a classic like Katsu chicken salad.
You can also dip into the likes of gyozas, sour n spicy prawn wontons and stir fried wild mushrooms and bok choy, and then go all out on the larger plates. We like the sound of the pad thai noodle seafood and the Singapore chilli crab mantao bun, but you really can't go wrong with the miso black cod, which comes with wilted pea sprout and hajjikame.
Gura Gura is also excited by creating unusual cocktail combinations, with many offering an east Asian take on classic recipes. Take the Japanese Old Fashioned, for example, which uses Hatozaki blended whisky, Akashi-Tai Shiraume Umeshu, caramalised banana and bergamot bitters - delicious.
