You’ll find pan-Asian restaurant Gura Gura in The Yards Covent Garden, a stone’s throw from Seven Dials, offering a wide-ranging menu of classic dishes from across Asia. The focus is undoubtedly on Japanese, Thai and Chinese cuisine, and Gura Gura has a cocktail menu to match.
Gura Gura is the creation of Indian restaurateur Gobind Chona, who makes his London debut with the pan-Asian restaurant, which spreads itself across two large floors at The Yards.
Inside, terrazzo floor tiles and plenty of climbing plants create an organic feel in the dining room, and there are plush leather booths as well as high-seated tables to choose from.
The menu starts with sushi - sashimi, nigiri, uramaki and makizushi - available by the set or by piece. As well as classics like yellowtail, salmon and tuna, Gura Gura also has some specialities available too, including arctic surf clam, spot prawn and snow crab. There’s a selection of dim sum available too - all handmade and freshly steamed to order - that includes seafood dumplings, scallop and prawn siu mai, har gau and a variety of gyozas.
Making a choice might be the most difficult thing about Gura Gura, as there are still lots of small and large plates to include in your meal. On the small plates there are dishes like prawn wonton soup, sambal squid and prawns, and robata grilled chicken, whilst large plates delve into South East Asia with seafood laksa, chicken rendang with shrimp sambal, green curry with mixed vegetables, and wok-fried flat noodles with mixed seafood. Finish things off with a Lotus biscoff cheesecake or a matcha and white chocolate mousse.
Cocktails are split into umami, bitter, sour, sweet and salty flavour profiles, and feature an extremely eclectic range of ingredients. If you’re feeling a little less adventurous, Gura Gura also has a few twists on a Negroni or an Old Fashioned, and there’s a small food menu available at the bar as well.
