Does the word Coupette ring a bell? Cocktail connoisseurs may have heard of the intimate cocktail bar with the same name in Dalston, that for years has been an underground watering hole, frequented by industry peers and those in-the-know.
Now, Atelier Coupette takes the spirit of the original bar to a new level, with a gorgeous space in the heart of Soho, which challenges everything you thought you knew about experimental drinks and French cuisine. Atelier means workshop in French, and this is exactly what you'll find here, a laboratory of sorts where the mixologists use innovative techniques and sustainable produce to create unique concoctions.
For example, there's the Rhubarb and Custard, which mixes Grey Goose, Aperol, Gallino Vanilla, yoghurt whey soda, poached rhubarb and Galangal, or how about the Sweet Miso Old Fashioned with Knob Creek Rye, spiced miso syrup, aromatised wine and roasted sweet potato.
Then there's the menu, self-described as 'Nouvelle Cuisine', which takes old, much-loved French classics and re-works them with a contemporary twist. The menu changes regularly thanks to its seasonal nature, but you might spot the likes of pan-seared sardines with tomato fondue and sea herbs, alongside wilted kale quinoa with curried cauliflower florets and hazelnut pesto. We like the sound of the smoked duck breast with pickled walnut puree, orange segments and shichimi togarashi.
The space itself is relaxed, atmospheric and stylish, with a stunning central bar, leather upholstered bar stools and a signature floor mural signing the bar's name. While the website doesn't actively advertise events bookings, the team happily accept them, they just ask that you get in touch and discuss your wants and needs so they can best assist you. But, one thing's for sure, this is a gorgeous backdrop to any kind of event, and in an ideal spot, too.
