Each week, we pick one of our favourite venues and explain why it’s made the cut
Words: Lizzie Frainier
There’s something about exclusive-use only venues that makes events feel, well, exclusive. In all seriousness though, we’ve always been fond of the Georgian-style townhouse at
30 Pavilion Road for the sophisticated backdrop it provides for private functions. Looks like we’re not alone either – Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton and Michael Jackson have all been guests here too.
What’s so good about it?
A prime location in Knightsbridge (just behind Harrods, no less), and the fact that guests have free reign over the house including three reception rooms, a bar and a roof terrace. Plus there are 11 bedrooms on site which can be added on to your booking for out-of-town guests. We like the idea of using the Stone Hall for the reception, where an 18th-century fireplace creates a welcoming atmosphere from the off. Then it’s up to the first-floor ballroom for dinner under the chandeliers. Summer events can make use of the roof terrace decked out in ivy-covered trellises.
Why do bookers love it?
It’s got Christmas all wrapped up with a glam speakeasy theme for parties this festive season. Standing receptions start at £109pp for 240 guests with prohibition cocktails, bowl food and theming. Opt for a sit down three-course dinner instead (from £149pp) and guests will enjoy a traditional feast of turkey with goose-fat roast potatoes, honey-glazed parsnips and bread sauce. Optional upgrades include live entertainment, casino tables and photo booths.
