Each week, we pick one of our favourite venues and explain why it’s made the cut
With bold patterns, bright colours and funky furniture, there’s nothing straitlaced about
Ham Yard Hotel. Form is as important as function in everything the Firmdale Hotels group does, and this Soho outpost is the most daring embodiment yet of that philosophy.
What’s so good about it?
All the event spaces are strikingly different, but each one carries the same creative atmosphere. For something truly kitsch yet cool, opt for the Croc Bowling Alley with authentic 1950s features, vintage bowling shoes and UV pins. The space has a lounge, bar and dancefloor. Business, no doubt, gets done more quickly in the Windmill, Archer and Sherwood rooms. The Theatre and Dive Bar is another great option with neon-lights, eclectic artworks and a giant hanging chandelier. Of course the cinema seats come in bright orange leather. You can even get great over-head event shots of the bar for a standing reception from the staircase as you descend.
Why do bookers love it?
A central London location is always a winner, and the fourth floor roof terrace with beehives, hanging plants and views over the city is also available for private hire for up to 100 guests. Look out for seasonal flowers like poppies and lemon verbena, as well as a vegetable garden with broccoli and kale that make it feel verdant year-round.
