Each week, we pick one of our favourite venues and explain why it’s made the cut
With a restaurant that’s constantly evolving to fit the rotating line-up of chefs, it comes as little surprise that the event spaces at Marylebone’s
Carousel are adept at chopping and changing to fit bookers’ needs. Picture a permanent venue with a pop-up mentality, if you will.
What’s so good about it?
This place is seriously cool with decor that is very much ‘barely converted warehouse’. Spread across two adjacent buildings, there’s 6000sq ft of blank-canvas space to play with too. Upstairs is light and bright, Downstairs is bigger and kitted out with hi-spec AV and a flexible lighting rig and the leafy Garden is south facing. Next Door is new this year, with floor-to-ceiling windows at street level. Dry hire is always an option, but where the venue really sparkles is with all its add-ons from seasonal, locally-sourced catering to the in-house production team that can help with costumes, table dressing, flowers and whatever else you might need.
Why do bookers love it?
Christmas parties are a cinch, with the team giving new life to festive events packages. Far from your standard winter wonderland with tinsel and trees, Carousel goes all out on creating something a bit different for guests. Previous years have been set in Narnia and Gepetto’s workshop, while 2017 will see the Upstairs and Downstairs spaces transformed into remote and snow-dusted northern Japan. Expect a neon-lit room for karaoke, Hello Kitty-inspired bathrooms and an izakaya drinking den filled with sakes. Kanpai!
