Cafe Murano Covent Garden - dining

We’ve always been big fans of Angela Hartnett’s cooking, and her third venture (this time in Covent Garden) which opened back in 2015 remains a solid favourite when we’re looking for a private dining spot. There’s something about her rustic Italian sharing dishes that puts everyone in a good mood – whether it’s a big family dinner or a corporate event.

What’s so good about it?
Hands down, the food. Sure the upstairs room is striking with its dark-blue banquettes and glass atrium roof, but it’s what arrives on the plates that will have your guests chattering away. Devised by Michelin-starred Hartnett and executive chef Sam Williams, the menu puts signature and seasonal dishes from the St James’s original alongside some new creations, all paired with a great selection of Italian drinks. Lovely little cichetti kick things off (the rich truffle arancini is a real guilty pleasure of ours), before family-style antipasti, primi and secondi platters. Picture the likes of rigatoni swimming in sausage ragu and swordfish drizzled in salsa verde. Hungry yet?

Why do bookers love it?

On top of the sleek private room for 60, the site’s Pastificio next door can be hired exclusively for smaller evening gatherings. A pasta factory, deli and wine shop during the day, it’s packed full of Italian products which create a cosy vibe for private wine tastings or dinners. Plus you can book a pasta-making class here for up to 12 if you want your guests to get a bit more involved.
