The Westbury hotel unveils new-look luxury suites

After a year of renovations, Mayfair institution The Westbury has finished upgrading its luxury accommodation. With the hotel’s new association with the Luxury Collection group and 44 new suites on offer, we headed to Bond Street to check it out for ourselves.

The evening started with a glass of Moet in the exclusive Polo Bar, and then it was time to head up seven floors to have a peek in the Berkeley and Hanover Terrace Suites. The large outdoor terraces mean that guests have some serious views over London while inside, Alex Kravetz Designs has introduced red wood panelling and Italian marble bathrooms to elevate the luxurious feel of the spaces.

It’s the refreshed St George’s Penthouse Suite though that lends itself well to bookers on the lookout for a surprising event space. Set apart from the sleeping quarters, the private dining and lounge area features floor-to-ceiling windows which during the day fills the space with light, while at night the lights of Mayfair are a special backdrop for dinners.

If it’s a restaurant experience you’re after though, don’t miss the 10-seater Wine Room in the hotel’s Michelin-starred Alyn Williams at The Westbury. We enjoyed the likes of Orkney scallop with fennel, lemon, radish and dashi; slow-cooked cod with coco beans and truffle; and salted caramel tart with baked apple ice cream, all surrounded by 600 bottles of the restaurant’s extraordinary wine list. Of the experience, Alyn tells us, ‘We have our guests choose their preferred wines and then create a menu to match them. I like the idea of doing it that way around, as opposed to the norm of matching the wine to the menu.’ If it’s a private dining experience with a difference you’re after, then this is it.
