When we had our hard hat tour of the
second Swingers crazy golf site three weeks ago, we thought the team’s projection of opening the British seaside-themed venue this week was, well, crazy. But, they’ve done it – and we got to tee off at the opening party.
‘We’ve taken what we’ve heard from guests of our original City site and had the luxury – money – to apply what we’ve learned here,’ co-owner Matt Grech-Smith tells us. That means more seating, bigger props and shed loads of bar space.
After our round of nine holes on The Big Wheel Course (fun, not too hard and full of clever obstacles) we headed to the back of the venue – frozen rosé cocktail in hand – to check out the private event spaces. The Palm Lounge is our favourite of the three private dining rooms (the House of Hackney-like design makes it bang on trend) and the mix of banquette seating and standing space makes it a casual spot for 40 guests to look out over the Grand Hotel Bar.
The most charming spots though are the three Pergolas. Up to 20 guests can enjoy cocktails and canapés surrounded by trawling twine and fairy lights while goading on the players on the Helter Skelter Course. If you want something more substantial after a tense round of golf, we’d recommend a Made of Dough pizza or a Patty & Bun burger from the Promenade. Oh, and don’t forget to get your group their photo op on the winner’s podium – an Instagram opportunity if ever there was one.
