Those familiar with the career of chef Sophie Michell will know that she’s not accustomed to being idle. She’s about to launch a new cookbook, recently became an ambassador for Pommery champagne and has now been announced as the new executive chef of members club and events venue Home House.
‘My job at Home House is to breathe new life into the food,’ Sophie tells us. ‘I’ve done a lot of high-profile catering events [one of those being for Leonardo DiCaprio]. I think the approach to event catering needs to change, so what we’re really working on is bringing more restaurant-style food into the industry.’
One of her first events at the venue saw Sophie give each of the event spaces a colour, and theme all of the food around it. ‘We had a pink room with pink food, a yellow room with yellow food, and even had an entirely blue cake display in the blue room. It looked so striking. I get a such buzz from creating adventurous events food.’ She’s already got a long list of adventurous canapés on the menus and is working with the rest of the events team to bring her healthier, restaurant chef-style food to event bookers looking for working-lunch packages and formal dinners alike.
Sophie has plenty of space to play with too. Nine spaces in total, from the opulent Front Parlour & Eating Room, through to the intimate Asylum Room and the pretty Portman Square Garden, make up the private hire offering at this ‘palace of entertainment’.
