An exciting new addition to Manchester’s vibrant city centre is arriving this autumn in the form of Exhibition MCR - a huge, multi-purpose entertainment space. The new site will house three award-winning independent kitchens, two bars, as well as dedicated exhibition spaces for local artists.
The restaurants that will be part of Exhibition’s food offering have yet to be announced, but we’re told they will all fit within Exhibition’s broad brief of innovation and seasonality, with global inspiration.
After dark, the 400 capacity venue will turn into a vibrant nightlife destination with nightly DJs and entertainers showcasing the best of Manchester’s creative scene. One bar will feature plenty of local brewing talent, as well as an extensive wine list, premium spirits and fresh MCR Union Lager, whilst the other will feature a special cocktail menu, celebrating seasonality.
The interiors of the iconic St George’s House have been completely stripped back to reveal its original industrial shell, creating a unique and exciting home for local independent businesses and artists. The transformation has been masterminded by the family behind Peter Street’s Haunt, a coffee shop and aperitivo bar, having secured a successful year of business under their belts.
St George’s House has had many guises over the years. The building marks the site of the infamous 1817 Peterloo Massacre, and it later became Manchester’s Museum of Natural History. Fast forward a century and the Grade II listed building has been given a new lease of life once again.
‘We can’t wait to start welcoming people to Exhibition this Autumn, and hope to bring something different to Peter Street,’ says Exhibition MCR operations manager, Sam Wheatley. ‘Nurturing local businesses and artists is integral to Exhibition, and we’re so excited to share our venue with some of the most talented people from across the region.’
Manchester isn't the only city getting an exciting new venue - hospitality group Press Up has been granted planning permission on the Grade-II* listed Birmingham Methodist Hall. Click the link for the full story.
