Holm in South Somerset, which was recently voted number 11 in SquareMeal’s Top 100 UK Restaurants, is set to undergo a major expansion this year which will see the award-winning restaurant add seven ensuite bedrooms and a mixed-use community space to its repertoire. Its aim is to operate as a multi-functional space with various guises to suit every occasion.
The project, which is set to be complete by July 2023, includes adding a brand-new studio space upstairs above the restaurant, which will serve as a venue for drinks receptions, private functions and community events. When it’s not being hired for private events, the community space will operate as a multi-functional room, such as a lounge for overnight guests, a space for a mid-morning pilates class or a place to promote artworks by local artists.

In addition, the South West England restaurant will launch seven ensuite bedrooms alongside the new events space to transform the popular dining spot into a gastronomic getaway destination. Working with architectural firm Gundry & Ducker, the bedrooms will mirror the same aesthetic as the restaurant below, restoring original features from the 1830s building to sit alongside modernist joinery, mid-century furniture and contemporary artworks.
More about Holm
Originally opened in 2021, Holm is a contemporary British restaurant housed within a former bank from Nicholas Balfe, Mark Gurney and Matt Bushnell of Levan and Larry’s in London. With an ethos deeply rooted in nature, head chef Nicholas Balfe draws on ultra-fresh produce from local farmers, fisherman, growers and butchers to create his tasting menus, while a list of low-intervention, organic and biodynamic wines is served alongside the food. To the rear of the restaurant is an alfresco terrace for summer dining, and beyond that a large area which is currently being landscaped to create a flowing kitchen garden and further seating area.
