We went to the booming Battersea Power Station to find out what Cinnamon Kitchen (and its cage) can do for festive private dining this Christmas
The Cinnamon Group has established a strong foothold in London with head chef Vivek Singh’s modern Indian cuisine. Classically trained in India, he’s got the authenticity of proper North Indian food with the innovation of contemporary cooking. The group’s latest venture in the arches at the
Battersea Power Station complex definitively reflects this. But how does it translate to Christmas?
First, you need to head up to the interesting mezzanine semi-private dining room, which appears to hang like a cage from the brick-clad arched ceiling. We were surprised at how intimate and private the 20-capacity space felt (thanks to the acoustic of the arches), while at the same time having quite the show-off effect. The warmth of the downstairs interiors (think low lights, deep turquoise sofas and burnt orange chairs) carries on up to the PDR, making it cosy and atmospheric. Yet, the exposed brick and industrial finishes give it edge.
But what about the food? The sample festive dishes paint a colourful and spicy picture. Tandoori ‘Raan’ (whole braised leg of lamb with saffron sauce) stands out, although we wouldn’t mind a bit of Kentish lamb Rogan or the vegetarian stir-fried cauliflower and broccoli with yoghurt sauce. There are two events menus to choose from. For £35pp, you get a three-course meal with sides and for £50pp, you get six courses with sides. Both packages exclude drinks, but the restaurant has an extensive wine list and exciting, Indian-themed cocktails.
