When winter arrives and our gaze turns to Christmas, many of us gravitate towards one of London’s cosy, welcoming pubs for good food and drink with a rousing, friendly atmosphere. As far as pubs go, The George is certainly one of London’s more impressive sites - this 18th century, Grade-II listed pub has been a haunt for Fitzrovia’s writers, artists and poets for hundreds of years. It has been recently renovated by JKS Restaurants and now stands proudly on Great Portland Street.
If you’re looking for a place to host a Christmas party, The George offers a wide range of private hire spaces for large and small groups, as well as set menus full of comforting traditional Christmas cooking. Downstairs is where you’ll find the pub itself, where you’re welcome to pop in for a celebratory pint of Guinness or an Irish coffee, but head up to the first floor and you’ll find The George’s stunning private hire spaces.
Two dining rooms feature distinct aesthetics - there’s the forest green dining room, with open fire and plush velvet armchairs, or the oblong private dining room, which features a magnificent banqueting table under chandeliers. The latter has capacity for 20 seated or 30 standing guests, whilst the former can squeeze up to 40 standing guests for a festive drinks party.
Smaller groups have lots of options too, from the downstairs Green Room or semi-private Snug to the Gluepot Bar, a private upstairs bar for 15. Larger groups can look into exclusive private hire of the whole pub, or just the upstairs if you prefer - either way, The George has a range of flexible options for Christmas parties large and small.
