While turkey and trimmings are all well and good, it has to be said that year after year it can get a little tiresome. Why not mix up your Christmas party this year and plump for one of Britain’s best-loved cuisines instead? We're talking about Indian food.
One of our favourite spots for indulging in the complex flavours of India is fine-dining restaurant Kahani. This Belgravia institution can accommodate large-scale exclusive restaurant hire or more intimate private dining parties. The private dining space can be either open to the atmosphere of the main space or curtained off for increased privacy. Here you can host up to ten guests, treating them to a specially curated menu from talented chef Peter Joseph.
At Kahani tasting menus are king, and make the perfect offering to demonstrate your thanks to clients or colleagues who have gone above and beyond this year. While each event is approached on a bespoke basis, you might start your meal with a light bite such as spiced chickpeas with a sweetened yogurt, mint, tamarind chutney and papdi – the chef’s own take on a classic chaat. Char-grilled Scottish scallops with a star anise coating and a spiced mango side keep things interesting come the fish course, while mains might be smoked Malabar prawns or guinea fowl tikka. A palate cleanser follows before a red meat course like Somerset lamb chops. With sides such as rice, naan and potatoes, there’s no chance guests will leave hungry. A sweet kulfi platter might finish things off, while the interesting drinks list gives you an excuse to linger after your meal to soak up the party atmosphere.
The in-house team are well experienced and renowned for giving a warm welcome. Throughout your planning process they’ll be on hand to assist with all the finer details, while come your meal they’ll offer your guests an enthusiastic greeting, helping to set the tone for an afternoon or evening of merrymaking.
