First established in 1986, this family run establishment serves authentic French cuisine in a rustic and convivial space. Tucked away down a cobbled mews in Clerkenwell, Le Café du Marche is housed in a converted warehouse built on the foundations of a former coach house. With many of its original features still intact, this charming venue is perfect if you’re after a unique and memorable space for your wedding.
On the first floor at Le Café du Marche you’ll find the private dining room, ‘Le Grenier’, a totally self-contained space with high ceilings and oak panelling that boasts its own entrance, bar, toilets and kitchen. With a capacity of 50 guests seated or 70 standing, it is ideal for a wedding breakfast and reception or just a post-ceremony celebration complete with canapes and Champagne.
Larger parties might be interested in exclusive hire of the entire venue, which combines this space with the ground floor restaurant and allows for up to 300 guests. Additional extras like personalised décor and live entertainment from the resident jazz band can also be arranged.
Catering is of course provided in-house and consists of a three course celebration menu, as well as a selection of canapes. Prior to your big day, select a few dishes from each course and settle in for a traditional French feast. Starters include classic delights like snails on toast with garlic butter, and fish soup with rouille and gruyere, with mains following such as confit duck with honey and clove sauce, and guinea fowl with chestnuts and wild mushroom sauce. Plenty of vegetarian dishes are on offer too, and desserts like crème caramel and a cheese selection feature.
For a final French-inspired twist, it's also possible to swap a traditional wedding cake for a croque-en-bouche - a towering stack of profiteroles drenched in sticky caramel.
