Tulsi, located in Westerham, has been open for more than 30 years, welcoming customers from a wide variety of places through its doors. The owners of the restaurant explain their choice for the name Tulsi, as referring to Ocimum Sanctum, a sacred basil plant of India: “In Indian households it is grown as a symbol of good luck and good health. It is also known as the secret leaf and used in herbal medicines”. There is a clear sense from Tulsi that they want their guests to leave the restaurant feeling positive and restored from the food served.
Recently refurbished, the Bollywood-style restaurant continues its aim to provide excellent service in a stylish restaurant. Through this aim there is a clear sense of family and togetherness, with many features being available for larger groups. Tulsi offers catering packages for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and parties, as well as a 10% discount on takeaways.
The menu itself is well-varied, with ingredients ranging from meats, seafood, rice and vegetables. The chef’s recommendations include a mix of these dishes. For instance, Tulsi raja Jhinga is a dish made from king prawns marinated in yoghurt and spices, cooked in the tandoor and finished in a curry sauce garnished with fresh coriander and spring onions. Otherwise, there are many classic Indian dishes on offer and chutneys and pickles are complimentary. Notably, there is also the chance for people to choose from a selection of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options. Those visiting Tulsi on a Sunday are able to indulge in the Sunday Buffet, which means a 3-course meal for £12.50, and for children only £8.50.
