The Ravensbury is a popular pan-Asian and Indian restaurant in Beddington, just a short drive outside of Croydon. You’ll find it right on the edge of Mitcham Common, where it’s easy to get to from nearby Mitcham and Mitcham Junction railway station.
From the outside, The Ravensbury has a charming mock Tudor aesthetic. This building was a public house for centuries, going way back to the medieval period, but a recent renovation has brought this local stalwart bang up to date. The glamorous interiors really come into their own in the evening, when mirrored drinks cabinets and a neon-lit bar give The Ravensbury a party atmosphere. As well as the main dining room, there’s also a separate lounge area where diners can have a pre- or post-dinner drink, or just enjoy a cocktail and a snack.
The extensive menu flits between recognisable Indian and Cantonese dishes, but also includes some Indo-Chinese cooking among the starts, with dishes like chilli paneer and vegetable Manchurian (mixed vegetable balls cooked with green chilli, garlic, ginger and spring onion) featuring. The majority of the menu is Indian, and stretches from recognisable starters like pani puri and papdi chat, to a host of tandoori-grilled meat, fish and vegetable dishes, curries, curries, biryanis and house specials, like tandoori lobster tail, and Malabar chicken (a south Indian style chicken dish, cooked in coconut and tamarind).
Main course Chinese dishes include Thai green curry, sweet and sour, black bean sauce and Singapore fried rice, with your choice of meat or fish.
Alongside a wine list, The Ravensbury team are also happy to mix you up a cocktail from a large list that includes classic mixes like an Espresso Martini and Negroni alongside refreshing mocktails.
