The decor here is hipster recycling heaven (supermarket-trolley chairs, cable-drum tables, and baked-bean can cutlery-holders abound), but the menu is refreshingly original – and very reasonably priced. Pride of place goes to a range of more than 20 made-to-order, gourmet sandwiches, all served on a choice of breads and containing interesting fillings such as sesame shredded pork or sweet chilli crayfish cocktail. The coconut satay chicken with coriander mayo and rocket on ciabatta is deservedly the most popular. The salads, coffees and ice cream milkshakes also have plenty of fans. Squeeze into a corner next to a vintage record-player or, on hot days, enjoy the shady little courtyard filled with flowers planted in everything from a pair of old jeans to a toilet. Set in Cambridge’s café quarter, The Shed can get extremely busy, especially with students at lunchtimes during term.
