About

Beginning its Cambridge career on Regent Street in the 1980s, this family-run café has become a local institution over the years. Sadly, though, several changes of location and ownership have taken their toll. The grissini and amaretti for sale on the counter may hint at an Italian heritage, but the menu and execution suggest the kitchen has embraced Brit culture. Naturally, the humble jacket potato features heavily – yet the toppings are all bog standard and the unloved spuds are soft-skinned. Equally dispiritingly, the menu is bulked out with a myriad other unimaginative roadside caff staples, such as burgers, fry-ups and lasagne. A central location, plenty of seating, low prices and the unchallenging cuisine make Tatties popular with the tartan shopping-trolley brigade, families and students, but more adventurous lunchers should head over to Stickybeaks opposite.
