Family-run The Locker Café was founded by a father and son in August 2017. Since then, it’s become a firm favourite of Cambridge residents and visitors alike.
Offering up coffee and a range of hot drinks, homemade cakes, and a menu of locally-sourced and freshly prepared food, The Locker has something for everybody. Hot drinks are as you’d expect from a place like this one, including cappuccinos, espressos, lattes, iced coffees and teas. Foodwise, you can expect to see a selection of home baked goods in the café's counter, both sweet and savoury.
For a light lunch, the pork and fennel rolls and vegan rolls are customer favourites, as is the focaccia served up with a side salad, and the homemade winter soups. When it comes to the summer months, you’ll find a changing summer salad of the day on the menu, as well as The Locker’s freshly made smoothies, which are popular for those looking for a quick and refreshing refuel in the city.
The Locker Café's personal touches also come in the form of its décor, which reflects one of the founders’ passion for art. Described as an avid potter, John (the father in The Locker’s father/son duo) makes and provides much of the pottery used in the café. His creations are also dotted around the café on display, and available for purchase to take home.
Stretching across two floors, The Locker Café holds up to 60 people, meaning a buzzy and lively atmosphere on days when it’s full. A homemade sign politely asks those with laptops (hi, students!) to stick to the first floor, so if you’re passionate about dining in a screen-free space then the ground floor is the place to be. At the end of the café's day, from 6-10pm on Mondays to Fridays, it opens up to hold a range of events, including live music, so if you wish you can continue to get your Locker fix into the evening.
Finally, good to know is that The Locker Café is firmly dog-friendly, so you can easily drop by for a drink and cake with your furry friends in tow. Perfect!
