Aside from a few deer heads, cabinet-mounted fish, two pink velvet-embossed walls & ceiling-height windows, The Temperance’s wood-on-wood interior has little to distinguish it from your average city boozer. London Pride, Leffe, Beck’s & San Miguel grace the bar at fair prices, & wines barely stray beyond the £20 mark – making the place hugely popular with after-work drinkers. The main menu inhabits the gastropub world of wild duck & apricot terrine, warm goats’ cheese frittata, & linguine with Dorset crab & mussels; there are burgers, too, plus puds such as peanut butter cheesecake. Simpler bar snacks (cheese on toast, Scotch eggs, spring rolls) help to satisfy the evening drinkers, while Sunday is for Bloody Marys & roasts. There’s also a bright private room with a plasma screen upstairs.
