Located in the heart of Porthleven, The Square at Porthleven has an enviable spot overlooking the picturesque fishing harbour. The comforting, brasserie-style menu makes a great accompaniment to the views, and The Square is a popular place to sit and watch life go by, especially on a sunny day.
The relaxed menu changes daily, depending on what ingredients and fresh and locally available from nearby suppliers and fishermen. Dishes take a broad modern British tack but there's inspiration from far and wide, resulting in a menu that has something for everyone. Starters include dishes like Cornish crab and cucumber bruschetta with pickled fennel, and scallop, tiger prawn and mussel stew with coconut milk, lemongrass, coriander and lime, with mains featuring fantastic Cornish produce and producers - try the Tregathenan Farm pork chop and crispy belly with hogs' pudding, potato puree and celeriac remoulade, or Cornish hake fillet with mussels, new potatoes and purple sprouting broccoli.
Dessert are simple but effective - think vanilla creme brulee with rhubarb compote, dark chocolate pot with honeycomb and coffee cream, and affogato made with homemade vanilla ice cream. As well as lunch and dinner a la carte menus, The Square also has a dedicated children's menu to keep the kids well fed during the day.
Around the corner from the restaurant you'll find The Square Deli and Ice Cream Emporium, which has a selection of tasty things to take away. Ice creams are all made on the premises, and there's a range of seasonal flavours to choose from as well as fan-favourites like vanilla. The Square also has a fully furnished and refurbished two bedroom flat available for those who wish to stay in the village.
